| Breast Cancer Screening for Early Detection Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer-related death. Regular screening is one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early when treatment is most successful. Mammography is the primary and most evidence-based screening tool, with adjunctive options like thermography, ultrasound, or MRI for those with dense breast tissue or higher risk. Screening mammography is recommended to begin at age 40 and to be performed every 1–2 years through age 75. Early detection not only saves lives but also allows for less invasive treatment options and improved long-term outcomes. While much less common, breast cancer can also affect men, underscoring the importance of awareness for all individuals. While breast cancer affects people of all backgrounds, the rates and outcomes vary significantly among different populations. White women have the highest incidence overall, followed by Black women, then Asian American, Pacific Islander, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. Ashkenazi Jewish women have the highest incidence of specific genetic mutations, contributing to increased risk of developing breast cancer. However, mortality tells a different story — Black women experience the highest death rates, followed by White, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic, and Asian American/Pacific Islander women. These disparities are influenced by factors such as later-stage diagnoses, access to care, and the higher prevalence of more aggressive breast cancer subtypes. Promoting awareness, equitable access to screening, and early detection is key to improving outcomes for everyone. |

Understanding Hormone Metabolism with DUTCH Hormone balance plays a critical role in overall wellness and long-term breast health. The DUTCH test measures hormones and hormone metabolites in your urine, providing a detailed look at how your body produces and utilizes reproductive hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Beyond measuring hormone levels, it reveals whether your body is breaking down estrogen through protective pathways or through routes that may contribute to DNA damage and increased cancer risk. This insight helps us create individualized treatment and lifestyle plans to support healthy hormone metabolism, detoxification, and balance. If you are interested in completing a DUTCH hormone test, please call/email our office or send a message to your provider through Charm to learn more. |
