Earthworms helped two patients walk

Earthworms helped two patients walk

By Autumn L Drouin, DVM, ND, Homeopath

Coincidence would have it that I saw two patients with very similar symptoms within a two week period. Both were in their eighties and suffered from cramping leg pain on walking.

The first was Jean, who had pain in her right lower leg and behind the knee. The pain came on within three minutes of walking, and eased when she stopped. Her medical records confirmed a diagnosis of Intermittent Claudication. She was prescribed Cilostazol, an FDA approved drug for claudication pain, but it was discontinued as she experienced no relief from the medication.

Bill came in just two weeks later and reported similar symptoms. His leg pain came on within twenty minutes of walking and was relieved within a few minutes of resting. Due to this he had reduced his daily walks from two miles to one.

Intermittent Claudication most often refers to muscle pain that occurs during exercise, classically in the buttocks or legs. It is the result of arterial disease in the affected leg, and occurs when there is significant narrowing of arteries due to atherosclerosis. The impaired blood circulation leads to lack of oxygen to the affected leg while walking, resulting in various degrees of pain. Distress is worse when walking uphill or rapidly and resting from activity, even in a standing position, relieves the symptoms.

Estimates are that Peripheral Arterial Disease affects 4 to 12% of people 55 to 70 years old and 15 to 20% of people over 70 years old. Risk factors are the same as for cardiovascular disease: smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, physical inactivity, and obesity.  Treatment consists of modifying risk factors, walking exercise 30 minutes 3 times a week, the pharaceutical medicines cilostazol (Pletal) or pentoxifylline (Trental), and physiotherapy. Surgery is the last resort, and only used for severe and disabling cases.

My recommendation for both patients was Lumbrokinase, an enzyme known for its ability to digest fibrin. Although each patient was a little shocked at the prospect of ingesting a product derived from earthworms, each was willing to try anything that would allow painless walking as long as it had a good safety record.

I recommended the Boluoke® brand of lumbrokinase because it is backed by research and subject to strict quality control. After I had done my research as to product quality, effectiveness, safety, and ruled out possible interactions with my patient’s pharmaceuticals, I had no qualms about recommending this product.

Two weeks later Bill emailed:  “I am pleased to report that the Boluoke® capsules are working wonders. Two capsules before walking and my leg cramps have been reduced by at least 85-90%”. After the dose was increased to three capsules before walking, Bill’s claudication pain became a thing of the past.

As for Jean, she took one capsule twice daily 30 minutes before meals and experienced the same positive results as Bill did. A year later both patients were still on Boluoke®  and still pain free.

I do not hesitate to use Boluoke for patients with a history of intermittent claudication or any other form of atherosclerosis. And I personally take one capsule twice daily as a preventive measure.

Disclaimer: I have no financial ties with the manufacturers or distributors of Boluoke®.
