NEW in our dispensary — Pure Protein and Pure Greens!

I make a lot of diet and supplement recommendations every day.  Consequently there are many companies and products that I review, both for basic nutritional content as well as actually trying products out to see how they work/feel in my body.  Since I often recommend protein shakes for breakfast, and I am a protein-shake drinker myself, it seems I am always trying out a new shake!  I can’t even imagine how many different protein powders and greens I have tried over the years!   Most recently our office has decided to carry and recommend a relative newcomer to the marketplace, the Pure Plant Protein and Pure Greens by NutraGen.

I was inspired to write something about these products for several reasons.  One, they are incredibly thoughtfully  formulated.  The protein powder is a combination of all organic Pea, Rice, Flax, Quinoa, Mung bean sprout, Millet sprout, and Amaranth sprout proteins.  It is gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, and non-GMO.  Quite a feat!  The Green powder is also all organic  and GMO-free and a combination of a variety of fruits and  vegetables.  The powder is made from the juices of the vegetables, which concentrates the nutrients, and it is less grainy than any green powder I have ever used — mixes right up in cool water without anything left behind.  Sometimes I mix in a smoothie, but I have taken to having spoonful of Greens in water as an afternoon pick-me up.  Better than chocolate!  (well, better for you anyway 😉 )  The two flavors (mint and green apple) are both sweetened with a little bit of stevia.  I’m working on getting them to produce an unsweetened version – hopefully will happen — but these are definitely VERY lightly sweetened.  As one who is very sensitive to the taste of stevia, I hardly notice a thing.

Also cool is that both of these are packaged in ways that both promote the stability of the product as well as being environmentally conscious.  The Greens are packaged in brown glass, and the protein powder has a recyclable inner lining and a compostable outer cardboard package.  Pretty innovative.

I don’t mean to write this like an advertisement, but I did want to let everyone know about the availability of these in our office.  We have been phasing out some of our other protein powders, and I know questions have come up, so hopefully this answers some of them.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns about if a product is right for you, please contact your physician for a personal recommendation.
