Allergy Elimination? It IS Possible!!

 by Autumn Drouin, ND

The incidence of allergic disease is on the rise. According to some estimates as many as one in five Americans suffer from an allergic condition.  Technically, allergies are specific, reproducible, undesired and unpleasant immune responses that are triggered by substances that come into contact with the body in one of several ways:
-inhaled, such as pollens, dust, molds, animal hair and dander
-ingested, such as foods, drugs, drinks
-injected, such as drugs, insect bites and stings
-contacted, such as chemicals, fabrics, plants
-environmental influences such as cold, heat, humidity

Identification of allergies

There are several methods that can be used to identify allergies.  The scratch test used by conventional allergists can identify many types of allergens causing immediate reactions.  Blood tests (RAST, ELISA) for the detection of IgE, IgG and/or IgA antibodies in the blood are useful to identify ingested and inhaled allergies. Muscle Response Technique (MRT) is yet another technique that can be used to evaluate allergen response.  It is important to note that NO technique is considered 100% effective, and even the standard skin testing can produce false positive AND false negative results. To that end, diagnosing allergies can be more of an art than a science, and using multiple techniques along with subjective data (elimination and challenge, symptom history, etc) is likely to give the most accurate information.

Treatment options for allergies

In addition to the options for diagnosis, there are also many options for treating allergies.  Allergies to inhaled substances are often successfully treated with “allergy shots” which consist of a series of desensitizing injections.  Allergies to ingested substances are usually controlled by an elimination diet which involves total elimination of the offending food(s) from the diet. If the allergy is mild to moderate and non-life threatening, a rotation diet that involves eating the allergenic food only every few days is sometimes sufficient. Allergies to agents which are contacted or injected may require complete avoidance.

NAET: Another Solution

While sometimes allergies can be “outgrown”, or the allergic response can be reduced, these techniques are rarely curative.   NAET , a technique offered in our office, is a drug-free, effective solution to eliminate or alleviate every kind of allergy.  NAET stands for Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique, and is named for the doctor who developed it.

The process involves:
1. Identifying the allergens using Muscle Response Technique (MRT). Often hidden allergies are identified using this technique. In addition blood tests and scratch tests can be used to establish a baseline and track the changes in the immune system reaction to allergens.  To learn more about MRT, click here.

2. Treating the identified allergens using acupressure on key acupuncture points. In my practice, this does not involve insertion of acupuncture needles.

3. After a treatment, avoiding the treated allergen(s) is usually required for one day.

Initially, allergens are treated in groups. If this does not relieve the allergic symptoms and/or change the patient’s MRT response, individual substances are treated. Most patients require a series of NAET treatments to clear basic allergies to constituents of common foods such as dairy, eggs and poultry, vitamins, minerals, and hormones, among others.  After the initial set of treatments, the great majority of patients experience an increased sense of well-being. Specific allergies to pollens, chemicals, fabrics, etc. can then be addressed. Patients can bring in samples of substances to which they suspect they may be allergic for both testing and treatment. For example, I have successfully treated many colicky babies for their mother’s milk and many patients for their own pet.

After treatment the patient no longer reacts to the substance. In other words, the substance is no longer “allergenic” for that patient. Symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, itchiness, hives, eczema, fatigue, digestive complaints, bladder infections, menstrual cramps, and others that typically were responses with exposure to the substance become a thing of the past.

Because NAET is gentle and safe, it can be used on infants, sick, and elderly patients.  It is a pleasure for me to see patients of all ages with different kinds of allergies able to eat normally, enjoy the outdoors, have pets, and regain a sense of well-being.

If you have any interest in learning more about NAET please consider attending a free one-hour informational evening where I will discuss the technique, it’s application, and demonstrate on one or two attendees. Tuesday March 12, 7 pm. You can also contact our office to book a free 15 minute informational appointment.
